A 35-year-old heavily pregnant woman gave birth on a platform in Raichur railway station at about 11.30 a.m. on Saturday, without any medical help. Susheela, her husband, Kudisanna Sindhe, and their two kids, were waiting at Platform No. 2 for catching a train for Mumbai when she went into labour and gave birth to the baby 30 minutes later .
When his wife went into labour, Kudisanna Shindhe cried for help. A couple of safaikaramchari women, who were on duty on the other side of the platform rushed to the spot. By then, Suheela had given birth. The women offered emergency services and helped Susheela recover. They took care of both mother and newborn till the Railway staff arrived.
As the news spread, Railway officials and the police rushed to the spot . The mother and newborn were then taking to the teaching hospital attached to the Raichur Institute of Medical Sciences for post-delivery care. As per the doctors, both mother and newborn were doing well.
"Hearing the cry for help, we rushed to the spot giving up the work at hand. The woman had already given birth when we reached there. We helped them to our level best. Both mother and newborn are well," Mahadevamma, a 50-year old safaikarmachari, told The Hindu .
Susheela and Kudisanna Sindhe belong to Shantinagar at Kurnool district in Andhra Pradesh and were settled in Mumbai . They were returning to Mumbai after attending a marriage in their native place.
