A woman was gang-raped and her male friend assaulted in an isolated area in Lingambudhipalya on the outskirts of Mysuru on Wednesday night.
The police said the two had reached Lingambudhipalya on their motorcycle and were chatting when the accused, who were reportedly drinking in a car parked nearby, spotted them.
Soon, the group of men got down from the car and entered into an argument with them before brutally assaulting the woman’s friend.
Then, they gang-raped the woman. The accused dropped a boulder on the right leg of the woman’s friend, causing a fracture, said Superintendent of Police Amit Singh.
‘Culprits get away’
After the rape, the accused sped away. “There were three or four people in the car,” Mr. Singh said.
Residents of the locality heard the cries of the woman and her friend and alerted the police. The two were later shifted to hospitals.
The Jayapura police have registered a case. “Special teams have been formed to nab the accused,” said Mr. Singh.
