Woman charred to death, Swamiji sustains burn injuries in mutt

Mystery clouds the incident of woman found charred to death while Swamiji of the mutt sustained burn injuries on Monday in Shivananda Mutt in Marakatt village in Yelburga taluk of Koppal district.

The exact reason for the incident is yet to be established.

The deceased has been identified as Prabhavati (42) and the name of the injured is given as Shivanand Swamiji.

According to preliminary information, the woman was reportedly the disciple of the Swamiji and was staying in the mutt. People came to know about the incident which occurred in a room of the mutt between noon and 1.00 p.m.

P. Raja, Superintendent of Police, told The Hindu that on getting the information police rushed to the spot and shifted the Swamiji to a hospital in Kushtagi and later to a hospital in Bagalkot for treatment. He had sustained about 60 to 70 percent burns. The woman had died on-the-spot.

Bewoor police have registered a case and are investigating.
