Home Minister K.J. George on Wednesday said that the State Government is ready to hand-over the probe into alleged bribery scandal in the Karnataka Lokayukta to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) if the anti-corruption watchdog makes such as a request.

Speaking to presspersons here, Mr. George said that the Government on its own has no powers to request the CBI to conduct the probe into the Lokayukta’s bribery scandal.

The Government on Tuesday constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by IPS officer Kamal Pant, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Prisons, to conduct a probe into alleged bribery scandal in the Lokayukta following the agency’s request, he said.

Opposition members demanded a detailed discussion on the alleged bribery issue in the agency.
