Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has said he will consider upgrading the Hassan City Municipal Council (CMC) into a corporation.

The CM was responding to a plea by the elected representatives of Hassan at a programme here on Sunday. “If the proposal for upgradation of the CMC into a corporation is feasible, the government will definitely consider it and upgrade the urban local body,” he said.

He laid the foundation stone for a drinking water project worth ₹116 crore under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation. The scheme intends to provide Hemavati water from the reservoir at Gorur to Hassan and villages on the outskirts. “The scheme involves 50% of funds from the Centre, 20% from the State and the remaining 30% from the urban local body. The project has been designed keeping in mind the population of the city by 2047,” he said.

Mr. Siddaramaiah also laid the foundation stone for improving parks in the city at a cost of ₹2crore.
