A wildfire broke out at the Karnataka Forest Development Corporation plantation near here on Tuesday, damaging the plantation spread across 44 hectares of land. The plantation included eucalyptus and pulpwood. The officials said the damage was meagre.

Residents of Dodda Genigere and other villages around the plantation noticed the fire in the afternoon and informed the Forest Department officials as well as fire brigade. The staff of the department and fire tenders arrived at the spot and doused the fire after prolonged efforts.Moganna Gowda, Range Forest Officer attached to the KFDC, told The Hindu, “It seems to be an act of some miscreants.” Regarding the damage, the officer said damage not heavy as the corporation had already lifted pulpwood stock from the plantation. “Only waste material left in the place caught fire.”
