Members of Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) staged a dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Wednesday demanding action against Food and Civil Supplies Department officials for their negligence, causing foodgrains to rot in the warehouse.

About 6,000 quintals of wheat was lying in the warehouse and it was unfit even to feed the cattle as it was sprinkled with ammonium phosphate pesticide, the protesters alleged.

The organisation also urged the district administration to distribute the ragi and gram dal stocks to the beneficiaries before they too rot. Lethargy on the part of authorities concerned was leading to denial of foodgrains to hundreds of people, it added.

The protesters submitted a memorandum to the Additional Deputy Commissioner K. Vidyakumari.

KRRS district unit president K. Srinivas Gowda, and women’s wing president A. Nalini participated in the protest.
