Watch Venus and Jupiter come together

June 30, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - Udupi:

The Poornaprajna Amateur Astronomy Club (PAAC), Poornaprajna College, is organising a Sky Watch programme to watch Venus and Jupiter at the college from 6.30 p.m. here on June 30 and July 1. However, the programme is subject to whether or not there would be rainfall.

In a release here on Monday, A.P. Bhat, Head of the Department of Physics at Poornaprajna College and Coordinator of PAAC, said that Venus and Jupiter looked spectacular in the western twilight sky, as viewed from around the world.

They were among the two brightest star-like objects in the sky, and had been drawing closer together throughout June. On the nights of June 30 and July 1, one could witness the closest Venus-Jupiter conjunction until August 27, 2016.

The programme, subject to rain, will be held on June 30 and July 1
