A toddler was among 85 persons who were rescued by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) from Dakshina Kannada's Charmadi village.

A stretch of the load linking Parlani village with Charmadi village in Belthangady taluk, Dakshina Kannada has been cut off after Mrutyunjaya river carried landslip debris, trees from the Western Ghats in heavy rains since August 9. This road was the lifeline of nearly 40 families, since it led to National Highway-73, which connects the village to the rest of Karnataka.

Ganapathi Shastri, Tahsildar, Belthangady, said the toddler was unwell and has been shifted to Belthangady for treatment.

In addition, two pregnant women were also rescued, for one of them the delivery was fixed for August 11.
