Illegal dumping and burning of solid waste around Bogadi Lake, off Outer Ring Road, in Vijayanagar Third Stage here has turned out to be a big nuisance for the local residents.

Twice or thrice a week, the trash is burnt, and the smoke engulfs the locality, causing respiratory problems to many. A thick blanket of smoke could be seen in the vicinity whenever the trash is burnt, according to the local residents.

They had complained to the Mysuru City Corporation but it apparently refuses to address the problem saying that the area does not come under its limits. The MUDA is refusing to address the problem as it claims to have handed over the locality to the MCC.

Confusion

Vijayanagar Third Stage adjoins Hinkal, which is still part of Hinkal GP despite being attached to the city. The GP is apparently dumping the waste collected from the households on the land abutting Bogadi Lake, allege the residents. The confusion over the limits of the locality and the boundary issues between the MCC and the MUDA was resulting in many problems, including the sanction of building plans, they claim.

“The smoke and foul smell from waste, including waste dumped by the meat shops, may result in serious health issue. The KSPCB should also take note of the problem as the trash is burnt frequently,” they demanded.
