Voting stopped after candidate complains of change in symbol

Following complaints by a candidate of change in the symbol in the ballot paper, the voting in booth number 173 in Bandaru village in Belthangady taluk has come to a halt.

According to official sources, the candidate noticed that the symbol allotted to him was different from what was printed in the ballot paper.

Following his complaint, Belthangady Tahsildar and other officials rushed to the polling booth. It was decided to conduct re-polling on May 31, an official said.

The polling went on peacefully in Dakshina Kannada amidst heavy rainfall in several parts of the district. The average polling was 29.46 per cent around 11 a.m. While Mangaluru taluk had 32.5 per cent polling, Puttur recorded 23.22%. Bantwal recorded 34%, followed by 35 per cent in Sullia and 22.59 per cent in Belthangadi.
