Vivek Hebbar and Prakash Hegde, managing directors of Yellapur-based export firm, Dream Logistics, were arrested by the CBI on Tuesday in connection with the investigation of the export of iron ore from the Belekeri Port in Uttara Kannada.

Vivek Hebbar is the son of senior Congress leader and Yellapur MLA Shivaram Hebbar.

The two business partners were produced before a magistrate who remanded them in CBI custody till Friday.

Dream Logistics is one of the four export firms named by the Central Empowered Committee in its report to the Supreme Court. Based on its report, the Supreme Court had asked the CBI to register cases against the four companies that had illegally exported 50.7 lakh tonnes of iron ore from the port between January 1, 2009 and May 31, 2010.

In its charge-sheet last month, the CBI told the court that Vivek Hebbar’s firm had exported around nine lakh tonnes of the 50.7 lakh tonnes of iron ore.
