A group of 45 visually challenged girls took part in an archery camp in Mysuru on Sunday.
The camp was organised by Rotary Mysore Midtown and Tiger Adventure Foundation at Ranga Rao Memorial School for Disabled on K.R.S. Road.
“Most of them hit the target while a few of them even got the bullseye,” said D.S.D. Solanki, an adventure enthusiast, who was the brain behind the exercise.
The students were first made to feel the bows and arrows, besides the target board and the differently-coloured circles it bears. They were also made to measure the distance from the target to their position in paces.
The organisers pulled a rope tied to a bell hung underneath the target after each girl took her position. “The girls shot the arrow the moment they heard the sound of the bell. Each of them got five chances. Most of them hit the target,” said Narendra Babu, president, Rotary Mysore Midtown.
Ms. Aruna, a student of Ranga Rao Memorial School for Disabled, said it was a new experience for her to hold the bow and arrows. “We knew about this sport from books. But, it was the first time we experienced it,” she added.
The camp was inaugurated by Vipul Kumar, Inspector General of Police, Southern Range. The participants were assisted by trainers from Tiger Adventure Foundation Pankaj Mallick, Lohit G. and Gowtham Devanoor.
