Hundreds of people came to see the relic of St. Don Bosco which arrived here on Monday.

Rev. Fr. Verghese C., head of the Don Bosco Vocational Training Centre at Janawada here, said people from across the district queued up to see the life-size fibreglass model of the 19th century priest containing bones from his right hand.

It was kept for public viewing at the Sacred Heart Church, the Don Bosco centre, St. Joseph's School and the Carmel Vocational Training Institute (CVTI). Young people offered prayers all through the night at St. Joseph's School. A film on Don Bosco's life was also screened. A special mass was organised at the chapel. Prayers were held at the CVTI on Tuesday.

In the run-up to the bicentenary birth celebrations of the saint in 2015, the relics were being taken around the world. The tour started in Italy in 2009 and is expected to end before 2015.

A specially equipped mini-van that has an automatic trolley carries the relic. It is manned by three members of the Italian army police.

The relic left for Hyderabad on Wednesday evening along with authorities of the Hyderabad Salesians order.
