VIMS teaching, non-teaching staff threaten dharna

Teachers’ Association at Vijayanagar Institute of Medical Science (VIMS) here has threatened to stage a daylong dharna on May 24th to protest against the delay in disbursing their salaries. They alleged that they haven’t received their salaries for the past two months.

Association members met VIMS director Srinivas and urged him to release the pending salaries for teaching and non-teaching staff. They also drew his attention that time-bound scale and promotions to eligible doctors was not given.

They also said that the inordinate delay in disbursement of salaries and not giving promotions would severely hamper productive atmosphere in the institution.

Enquires revealed that the delay on the part of the officials concerned in forwarding the budget proposals periodically to the state government was the main reason for the release of grants, leading to delay in disbursement of salaries.

Ashwini Kumar, association president, said that for the past seven months, the salaries of teaching and non-teaching staff was not being disbursed properly every month.

He said that he was at a loss to understand the reasons for the delay in disbursing the salary only at VIMS, while it was being paid regularly in other government-run teaching hospitals.

“We have informed the director to arrange for the disbursal of our salaries by May 23, failing which we will stage a dharna in front of his chamber from May 24. This will be the first step of our agitation,” he said.
