Villagers worried over waste dump

Dumping of septic tank waste from urban areas into lakes near villages in Sirsi town has caused concern among residents.

Residents of Huldevansar, Okkalakoppa, Hodasalmane, Goudalli and Jogisar, in Islur Gram Panchayat in Sirsi taluk, met the tahsildar on Thursday and submitted a memorandum requesting the authorities to clear the waste. Waste management contractors of Sirsi municipality have dumped about 50 trucks of sewage.

The water of the wells and tanks were getting contaminated and the whole area was stinking, they said.
