A crocodile was spotted in the Cauvery near Ramanathapura in Arkalgud taluk on Sunday, creating jitters among residents of the village. For the past few days, the river has been in spate following heavy rains in parts of Kodagu and Hassan.

Villagers spotted a crocodile on a rock amidst water on Sunday morning. Forest officials also reached the spot. “Crocodiles are quite common in the Cauvery. Locals are aware of animals in the river. Our staff also visited the spot and told the people to be careful,” Vinay Chandra, Range Forest Officer (Arkalgud), said.

Following the heavy rain, nearly 200 houses were flooded in the village in August.
