The District Government Hospital has emerged as the best government hospital in the State, for which it is getting the Union government’s Kayakalpa Award under the Swachh Bharat campaign.

R.M. Sajjan, District Surgeon, who confirmed this, told The Hindu that the government has selected the hospital for meeting various standards including providing better healthcare and maintenance of cleanliness.

“It is a matter of great privilege for all of us to become the recipient of the prestigious award. It is the result of the efforts made by all staff members of the hospital and support of Deputy Commissioner D. Randeep,” Dr. Sajjan said.

He said that the award carries Rs. 50 lakh and a citation. He said that though the hospital has received the confirmation letter, however, the date of the award function is yet to be announced. Sources said that second award has been given to the District Government Hospital, Mangaluru. This is followed by Chikkamagaluru, Tumakuru, Davangere, Kalaburagi, Bagalkot, Haveri and Kolar.

The Union government, which had selected twenty government hospitals of the State, had sent a team to visit all these hospital to assess the quality of service being provided.

Meanwhile, Dr. Sajjan informed that the hospital has been bringing new machines and upgrading the facilities for providing better services to the patients. He informed that recently, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit has been upgraded by adding ten advanced machines for new born babies.
