Want to see Mysuru city up-close from atop Chamundi Hills? Here’s the platform.

Tourism Department has developed a gallery atop the hills (near the road leading to the Nandi statue) for viewing the city and its stunning heritage buildings starting with the iconic palace from a fixed high-powered binocular.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah inaugurated the gallery and got a view of the city from the binocular with a 10x zoom.

The department is setting up another viewing gallery near the Nandi statue with the same high-powered binocular. The earlier plan of installing telescope was dropped and binoculars were installed as a tourist attraction. Deputy Director of Tourism H.P. Janardhan told The Hindu that another viewing gallery will be ready soon. Meanwhile, Gaali Mantap or the watch tower on the road leading to the temple atop the hills, is being fenced for conserving the ancient structure, which, in the recent years, was facing vandalism. The work is being carried out by PWD. The mantap was earlier identified for installing a high-power telescope. It is also a popular film shooting spot.
