The district administration is yet to take a call on the venue of the All India Kannada Sahitya Sammelan to be held here in January, said Deputy Commissioner M. Deepa.

Speaking to presspersons after chairing a meeting of government officials’ committees related to the sammelan here on Tuesday, Ms. Deepa said the district administration was of the opinion that the literary event should be held within city limits.

She said Karnatak College Dharwad (KCD) grounds would be an ideal location. However, a suggestion was mooted to shift the venue to the University of Agricultural Sciences-Dharwad (UAS-D) campus on the outskirts of the city considering the possibility of a large number of people coming to witness the event and make necessary arrangements.

Other locations

“If held at the KCD grounds, distribution of food would be the major challenge. However, the district administration is contemplating having two locations to overcome the problem. Locations including the DIET grounds, Railway grounds and others are being considered,” she said.

Earlier, Ms. Deepa and B.C. Satish, CEO, ZP, issued instructions to officials on steps to be taken to ensure smooth conduct of the event. Ms. Deepa told officials to hold meetings with their respective committees to be ready with action plans before Saturday.

Sangeetha G., SP; Ibrahim Maigur, Additional Deputy Commssioner; officials of the ZP, Forest Department, Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation, and others were present.
