March 12, 2014 02:05 pm | Updated May 19, 2016 08:06 am IST - MYSORE:

The name of Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas M. Veerappa Moily will figure in the Congress’s second list of candidates for the Lok Sabha elections and he will contest from Chickballapur, according to Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president G. Parameshwara.

“All nine incumbent Congress MPs from the State, including Mr. Moily, will seek re-election. This decision has been taken by the party’s Central Election Committee. Therefore, there should not be any doubt over Mr. Moily’s contest,” he told presspersons here on Tuesday.

Rubbishes rumours

He rubbished rumours that the party was delaying announcing Mr. Moily’s candidature over “reports” that he could lose the election. “The delay in announcing the names of senior leaders, including that of Mr. Moily, should not be construed as an insult to them. There is a system in the party which is undergoing a change and they (leaders) have to go with it,” he said in response to a question.

Dr. Parameshwara also denied reports that Telugu superstar and Union Minister of State for Tourism Chiranjeevi would contest as the party’s candidate in Chickballapur.
