Unions do away with milk holidays

June 30, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:49 am IST - Mysuru:

Milk unions used to declare milk holidays during the peak season of production when they were unable to sell milk in the market. But the unions have stopped declaring the holidays keeping in mind the best interests of the producers.

Milk producers are accustomed to price variation and they would accept if the unions reduce the prices of the milk for some days during the peak season, according to Chenna Krishna, Managing Director of Mysore Milk Union Limited. He was hopeful that this time too milk producers in Mysuru and Chamarjanagar districts would accept if the union reduced the price of the milk to be given to them.

He further said that the Union government has been urging SAARC countries to buy milk products .

He also said that if the government implemented a proposed plan of providing milk to school children for five days a week, milk powder could be disposed and the dairies could clear dues of milk producers.
