Two police teams from Bangalore are being sent to the site of the two bomb explosions in Dilsukhnagar, Hyderabad, where 16 people were killed and more than 120 injured on Thursday.
Disclosing this to presspersons here on Friday, Additional Director-General of Police (Law and Order) Bipin Gopalakrishna said the purpose of the visit was to study the pattern of the terror attack in order to take preventive measures in Bangalore and other parts of the State.
The teams will also share information and expertise, if required, with the investigating agencies in Hyderabad. Such an exercise, which seeks to extend cooperation and coordination among the investigating agencies is necessary “since both the cities are on the terror radar”, he said.
Referring to reports that Centre had shared information with States two days ago about possible terror strikes in four cities, including Bangalore and Hubli in Karnataka, Mr. Gopalakrishna said Karnataka too had received a general alert in the wake of Afzal Guru’s execution. But it was not a specific alert about a possible attack in Bangalore or any part of the State, he clarified.
Meanwhile, Director-General and Inspector-General of Police Lalrokhuma Pachau held a meeting at the police headquarters in the city with senior police officers to review security measures. The meeting, attended by top officials from the Intelligence and Internal Security wings, among others, discussed various measures to counter possible attacks.
Steps have already been taken to tighten security in public places. Anti-sabotage squads, dog squads and bomb detection units have been stationed in sensitive places. Random checks of public places like bus-stands, railway stations and metro stations in Bangalore are also being made.
Jurisdictional police officials have been directed to step up patrolling in their respective areas in Bangalore, Additional Commissioner of Police T. Suneel Kumar said.
