Two farmers commit suicide in Mandya

Two farmers allegedly committed suicide in the district on Monday night and Tuesday.

A 42-year-old sugarcane grower allegedly committed suicide at Hullahalli in Mandya taluk on Monday midnight.

Raju took the extreme step owing to financial burden, Basaralu police said.He had three acres of land and had drilled a borewell, which failed to yield water.

He had availed Rs. 50,000 from a bank and Rs. 4.5 lakh from others, Raju’s relatives told the police.

A case has been registered in Basaralu police station.

K.R. Pet taluk

Another farmer committed suicide due to debt in K.R. Pet talul. Nataraju (40) was found dead at his farmland at Ballakere in K.R. Pet Taluk on Tuesday, police said.

Mr. Nataraju, a sericulture farmer had also been cultivating banana/sugarcane and other crops on his four acres of land.

He had availed Rs. 4 lakh as loan for agricultural purposes. His inability to repay the loan had prompted him to consume poison, his relatives reportedly told the police.

A case of unnatural death has been registered at the K.R. Pet Rural police station.
