There was tension in Sindhanur town in Raichur district on Tuesday after a low intensity explosive was found in an open site and later exploded injuring two children.

Chetan Singh Rathore, Superintendent of Police, who visited the spot, told The Hindu that the children took the explosive, which was fully covered with thread, away assuming that it was a playing object.

But, they suffered small injuries on their face after it exploded when they pulled the thread surrounding it.

“It was found in a ground when Ramesh Reddy, owner of the site, was digging for construction. But, he threw it away,” Dr. Rathore said and added that the police are verifying whether the site owner was unaware of it.

The police have launched investigation, the Superintendent of Police said.

It was learnt that Nagareddy and Shivaramareddy, relatives of Ramesh Reddy, had brought explosives and hidden in the open site adjacent to their house to use them to attack their rival Srikant Reddy.

The open site was purchased by Ramesh Reddy from Nagareddy. When he started digging for construction, one of the explosives was found. But, he negligently threw it away without taking any precaution. Therefore, he has been booked under several sections of Indian Penal Code and Explosives Substances Act.

The police brought a sniffer dog team to comb the entire area.

However, no other such explosives were found during combing, Dr. Rathore said.

A case has been registered in the Sindhanur Rural Police Station.
