Two children ‘brought dead’ tohospital, their mother arrested

Tension in Ayodhya Nagar in Hubballi as news spreads

A woman is said to have killed her two children reportedly upset over marital discord in Hubballi on Wednesday. The police have arrested her.

The incident took place at Ayodhya Nagar. The children have been identified as six-year-old Rohit Parashuram Hulakoti and Rohini Parashuram Hulakoti. There was tension for some time in the locality and then at the Old Hubballi Police Station as upset relatives and members of the locality staged a protest seeking the arrest of the accused.

On Tuesday evening, Chaitra Parashuram Hulakoti allegedly strangulated her children to death and later complained to the neighbours and family members that there was something wrong with her children as they were not responding to her. The children were immediately rushed to KIMS Hospital, where doctors confirmed that the two were brought dead. Immediately, the police were alerted as it was a case of suspicious death.

After news spread on Wednesday morning, many people gathered near Parashuram Hulakoti’s residence and expressed that there was foul play in the children’s death.

As the crowd was getting impatient, fearing violence the elders of the locality held a meeting, alerted the police and handed over the accused to the police.

Later, the accused reportedly admitted to the police to killing her children because of marital discord.

Parashuram Hulakoti is a construction worker.

The police are investigating if there was any accomplice in the crime. Meanwhile, sources in the police revealed that the accused was being questioned about an alleged relationship she had with a man.

As many people had gathered around the Old Hubballi Police Station and also around the house of the accused, Police Commissioner M.N. Nagaraj and other senior officials visited the place to defuse the tense situation. Old Hubballi Police have registered a case.
