Almost all the 200 trees that were translocated last month on a 60-km stretch between Hosapete and Ballari of NH 63, have started sprouting.
These trees of the ficus religiosa (peepal), ficus Bengalonsis (Baniyan), ficus glomerata (wild fig) varieties, which were part of 1,600 along the stretch, were to be axed as part of the road widening work from the present two-lane into four-lane, were translocated near the Daroji Bear Sanctuary and other suitable places adjacent to the road.
This was an initiative taken by Takat Singh Ranawat, Deputy Conservator of Forests, Ballari division, with the help of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), Gaman India Limited, and other contractors engaged in the upgrade of the 95 km stretch of NH 63, between Hosapete and the State border towards neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.
