Translator to return Sahitya Akademi award

D.N. Srinath, renowned translator, has decided to return the Kendra Sahitya Akademi award, in protest against the killing of Kannada scholar M.M. Kalburgi, .

Mr. Srinath had been given the award in 2009 for translating short stories in Hindi written by Bheesham Sahani into Kannada langauge.

Mr. Srinath, a retired teacher, told The Hindu that he would visit the regional office of the akademi at Bengaluru in about two days’ time and return the award and termed recent killings of three rationalists, including Kalburgi, a threat to freedom of expression.
