Training drivers to be guides

As part of the silver jubilee celebrations of Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd. (KRCL), a one-day training programme for taxi and autorickshaw drivers to work as tourist guides was held at the Community Hall here on Saturday.

According to a release issued by the KRCL here, in addition to the autorickshaw and taxi drivers at the Udupi Railway Station, those who lost their lands during land acquisition for Konkan Railways and were now working as drivers also participated in the training programme. The programme was held in association with the Department of Tourism.

Chetan V., district tourism consultant, explained briefly the tourism spots in and around Udupi and also about the local cuisine. Srisha M. Karmaran, JCI Zone trainer, Mangaluru, spoke on speaking skills, etiquette and personality grooming.

S. Nagesh Mestha, sub-inspector of Manipal police station, spoke on the importance of road safety rules. Tourist guide certificates were distributed to participating taxi and autorickshaw drivers at the end of the programme.
