Traffic warden scheme launched in Hassan

The Hassan district police on Wednesday launched the traffic warden scheme under which students will be joining hands with the traffic police in handling the vehicular movement within the city limits.

About 20 students have volunteered to work as traffic wardens in Hassan.

The district police have provided necessary training to students in traffic rules and on how to handle traffic on busy roads. Volunteers will be divided into groups and each group would be posted at different traffic points to handle the traffic, along with the police. “We, the police, appreciate the students evincing interest in working with us. This is not an easy job. You have to work in all weather conditions,” he told the volunteers.

He gave directions to volunteers on how to protect themselves while on duty. “Do not risk yourself while on duty. Your safety is also important. The district administration will give certificates to those who work with us for six months,” he said.

D.G. Krishne Gowda, principal of the Government Arts College here, who spoke on the occasion, said that the involvement of youths in handling traffic was a good gesture.
