March 28, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - MYSURU:

Two policemen escaped unhurt when a tractor illegally transporting sand allegedly tried to mow them down and ram into the police jeep near Kupparavalli village in Nanjangud taluk of Mysuru district.

The police jeep, belonging to Assistant Superintendent of Police, Nanjangud, Divyasara Thomas, was on the way to Nanjangud from T. Narsipur around 2 a.m. on Sunday when the driver Siddaraja Nayak and constable Jayakumar spotted the tractor transporting sand.

The police personnel stopped the jeep and signalled the tractor to halt. But, the tractor, which was carrying sand in a trolley, did not stop and instead came menacingly towards the police jeep.

Though the tractor came at a high speed towards the jeep with an intention to kill the policemen, Siddaraja Nayak and Jayakumar jumped out of the way. But, the tractor crashed into the police vehicle, damaging the right door of the jeep.

“The Assistant Superintendent of Police was not in the vehicle when the incident occurred. The police vehicle suffered damage in the incident,” Superintendent of Police Abhinav Khare told The Hindu. Both the tractor driver and his associate, who was seated next to him, abandoned the tractor and fled from the scene.

The police jeep driver, Siddaraja Nayak, lodged a complaint at the Badanavalu police station. Subsequently, a special team of policemen was constituted to trace the culprits.

On Sunday evening, the police managed to trace a 17-year-old boy, who was allegedly driving the tractor. The boy was produced before the juvenile board and sent to juvenile home in Mysuru. The police, however, are yet to trace his associate and the owner of the tractor.
