Toor dal, worth more than Rs. 1 crore and allegedly illegally stocked, at a godown of Shivashankar Traders, owned by Santosh Shivashankar Akki, and a grocery shop in Khade Bazaar, owned by Rau Magennavar, were seized on Tuesday evening.

Officials of the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department raided the godown and the grocery shop and seized 1,198 quintals of pulses worth nearly Rs.1.35 crore, which was illegally stocked.

Officials said that the trader could stock 500 quintals of pulses without licence and up to 2,000 quintals with licence. Shivshankar Traders did not have any licences and had stocked beyond permissible limits in violation of the law.

Mr. Magennavar had allegedly stocked 34 quintals of toor dal.
