The long-pending demand that the government must celebrate Tipu Sultan’s birth anniversary has finally been met with the Congress government issuing a gazette notification. The government, in the notification, has said that the birth anniversary of Tipu Sultan would be celebrated on November 10 every year.
The order said that while Rs. 50,000 would be granted to the district administration for holding the event at the district headquarters, Rs. 25,000 would be given for the event at the taluk level.
“We not only welcome the decision, but also thank the Congress government for taking such a decision. The government had made this announcement in the last Budget. However, it has now issued the gazette notification,” said Mohammad Irfan Shaikh, the district president of Tipu Sultan Sangharsha Samiti.
In a release, he said that for long, many progressive organisations and fans of Tipu Sultan had been demanding that the government celebrate the birth anniversary.
He said that the samiti had also been holding rallies and submitting memorandum to successive governments, but no action was taken to meet the demand. The release said that the celebration of the birth anniversary of Tipu Sultan, who laid down his life fighting British, would be a real tribute to him.
