Police officials have made elaborate security arrangements to conduct smooth elections for 120 Gram Panchayats, which are scheduled to be held between 7 a.m. to 5 p.m on June 2, in Yadgir district.
As many as four Deputy Superintendent of Police, 11 Inspectors, 63 Sub-Inspectors and Assistant Sub-Inspectors, 157 Head Constables, 859 Constables and 300 Home-Guards have been deployed for security, Superintendent of Police Vinayaka Patil has told The Hindu on Friday.
Three platoons of Karnataka State Reserve Police and District Reserve Police have also been deployed, he said and added that additional police forces from Belagavi and Uttara Kannada districts will be brought on May 31.
Of the total 883 polling booths, 182 had been identified as hypersensitive and 271 are sensitive while 430 are normal.
Patrolling police teams have been formed to keep vigil on 14 each polling station across the district, Mr. Patil said.
As many as 6,67,347 voters are eligible to franchise their right. Of them 3,36,303 are men and 3,31,044 are women. Besides, 48 are service voters.
The district has a total of 2,342 seats for 121 Gram Panchayats in three taluks.
However, 4,417 candidates for 1,864 seats in 120 Gram Panchayats are in the election fray after no nominations were filed for 51 seats in two GPs. 427 candidates were elected unopposed, sources said. As many as 3,805 Government employees will be on election duty, sources added.
