A woman and her two granddaughters were buried alive and two suffered injuries in a house collapse at Yaraguppi village in Kundgol taluk of Dharwad district on Tuesday.

The house collapsed in the early hours of Tuesday.

The dead were identified as Yallavva Gadad (56), Jyoti Meti (9) and Shravani Radayi (4).

The children and their parents had come to take part in a ritual at Yallavva Gadad’s house.

Following the incident, district-in-charge Minister R.V. Deshpande, the former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Water Resources Minister D.K. Shivakumar and others visited the house and consoled the family members.

They assured them of assistance but told them that they could not announce the quantum as the model code of conduct was in force.
