Three held on charges of rape and murder

Three persons have been arrested on charges of rape and murder of a woman in Badavanahalli police station limits in Tumkur district.

The arrested have been identified as Manjunath (24), Ramesh (23) and Yenjarappa (45).

According to the police, a gang of eight men had kidnapped Ngamma on December 21. She was the second wife of Yenjarappa who is a member of the Chandragiri gram panchayat in Madhugiri taluk in Tumkur district. The gang allegedly smashed her head with a boulder near Bijawara lake in Madhugiri taluk and then buried her body.

The grandmother of Nagamma filed a complaint in the police station stating that her granddaughter had been kidnapped. During the inquiry, one of the accused said that the woman had been raped before being murdered.

The police have launched a search for the accused who are absconding. The body was exhumed and a post-mortem examination was conducted.

Superintendent of Police T.R. Suresh told The Hindu , “We have registered cases of murder and rape against the accused”.
