Three girls of different high schools collapsed during the Republic Day parade at Maddur in the district on Monday morning.
The incident occurred when D.C. Thammanna, Maddur MLA, was taking the guard of honour after unfurling the National Flag.
Sources at Maddur taluk administration told The Hindu that Divya of Kasturaba School, Priya of Vijaya Vidya Samsthe and Ankitha of Poornaprajna Convent fainted during the parade.
The girls were participating in the Republic Day programme for more than four hours without food or water. In fact, several girls appeared to be suffering from giddiness, which was attributed to the fatigue caused by continuous programmes without food, sources said.The three girls were rushed to Gurushanthappa Public Hospital (government hospital) in an ambulance for treatment. They were discharged from the hospital later.
