A large number of devotees are expected to take a dip at the Triveni Sangama in T. Narsipur of Mysuru district during the three-day 11th Kumbh Mela, which begins from Sunday. Kumbh Mela at the confluence of the Cauvery, Kapila and Spatika Sarovar (Guptagamini) takes place once in three years.

Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and some of his Cabinet colleagues are expected to participate in the event, which is likely to attract heads of several religious mutts from across the State. The Mysuru district administration has made elaborate arrangements for the worshippers. It has been working for weeks to ensure smooth conduct of the event.

The entire area from Sri Gunja Narasimhaswamy Temple to the bathing ghat will be brightly lit as the authorities are expecting a large turnout this time. More than 50 expert divers have been roped in. They will be deployed at several points around the river on all three days. Also, boats from Mangaluru’s Fire Services Department and expert swimmers from Dakshina Kannada have reached the town. Two boats from the Indian Army will also be stationed at the site.

The floating bridge (a makeshift bridge built by the MEG) on the river connects Sri Gunja Narasimhaswamy Temple and Sri Agastheswara Swamy Temple. A separate area has been created for the sadhus, besides setting up a 20X40 ft area for the bathing of dignitaries.

Holiday for schools

Holiday has been declared for schools and colleges in T. Narsipur on Monday and Tuesday. Deputy Commissioner Abhiram G. Sankar visited the site and inspected the arrangements. A sum of ₹4 crore had been sought from the government for the event, he said, adding that the Chief Minister has plans of taking a holy dip.
