Minister of State for Youth Empowerment, Sports and Fisheries K. Abhayachandra Jain said on Sunday that the threat call to him, allegedly by underworld operative Ravi Poojary, is a “sensitive issue” and he will discuss it personally with Home Minister K.J. George.

Excerpts:

Do you feel insecure after the threat call?

No. But it has disturbed my family members. They are worried over my extensive travelling.

Have you sought additional security cover?

I did not. But I called the Home Minister and informed him about the threat. He, in turn, spoke to Mangaluru Police Commissioner, who visited Moodabidri on Saturday. The police escort has increased.

What is the reason behind such a threat?

One is the photograph of me along with an accused in the Bajrang Dal activist Prashant Poojary murder case, which went viral on social media and telecast on a news channel. In addition, there are two other ‘forces’, which might have conspired.

Can you specify these forces?

I do not know their affiliations. Police and Intelligence agencies will find that out.

Is this failure of law and order?

A: I don’t know. But there are forces that try to create disharmony among religions. We have to be cautious of such forces. I will continue to work for the welfare of the State and region from where I have been elected.
