This health centre runs without a doctor

October 26, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:40 am IST - Hassan:

Haradanahalli in Holenarsipur taluk of Hassan has a well-built community health centre. However, the public have not been able to gain any benefit from it, as no doctor has been posted to the centre in the last six months.

Holenarasipur MLA H.D. Revanna has often expressed his anger over the vacancy of doctors in the district. “There has been no doctor in Haradanahalli for many months. This is the state of hospital at the native place of the former Prime Minister of the country. People have to travel to either Holenarsipur or Hassan to consult a doctor,” he said.

During the rule of the Janata Dal (Secular)-BJP, the community health centre was constructed in the village.

The two-storey building has basic infrastructure facilities besides quarters for the staff. However, only two nurses and a D-group employee are employed the hospital. Even they too do not have work, as hardly any patient visits the hospital.

The district-level officers of the Health and Family Welfare Department express helpless over vacancies, as they do not have the authority to recruit doctors.

The government has to fill up the vacancies by inviting applications from eligible candidates. The officers said that they have sent reports to the department heads regarding the vacancies in the district.
