They can spring back to life

The ‘Raja Kaluves’ designed decades agofor supporting the lakes in the vicinity of Yelwal near Mysuru are under threat and may completely disappear from the landscape unless the authorities and restore them for eventual rejuvenation of the now-parched water bodies.

The ‘kaluve’ or stormwater drain that runs through Erappana Koppal, Karakanahalli and other villages before joining the lakes close to the highway, was once the main water source for the lakes.

The water bodies were also recharging the groundwater. The stormwater drain had been allegedly encroached upon at several places, blocking freshwater flow into the lakes. Already, may water bodies had been lost in the district.

The district administration can give a serious thought to safeguard at least the last remaining ones, the residents say.
