C. Shikha, Deputy Commissioner of Mysuru district, called upon students to read extensively to enrich their knowledge said that there was no short cut for hard work. She called upon parents not to force their wards to take up a particular stream.
Inaugurating The Hindu EducationPlus Career Counselling session here on Sunday at the Mysore University Senate Bhavan, Ms. Shikha told students not to get disheartened by temporary setbacks and to never give up their efforts to achieve goal. Narrating her experiences, she said that after obtaining a degree in engineering stream, she wanted to appear for the Civil Services examinations. She was determined to become an IAS officer and she never got disappointed by temporary setbacks in the initial stages. The Deputy Commissioner told students that there were a number of careers at present and ample opportunities in each career. “Hence remove from your mind the notion that engineering and medical alone can give them (students) a good life,” she said.
M. Srinivasan of the Karnataka Examination Authority requested students to keep all the documents, including copies of the provisional marks card, ready for the document verification process which may begin in the first week of June. Students who claim seats under sports, NCC or Defence quota, or under SC/ST category should produce relevant records at the time of verification.
Fee structure
The State government has not yet finalised the fee structure, he said, taking students through the admission procedure under CET. He urged students and parents to visit the Karnataka Education Authority (KEA) website and keep abreast of new developments that may take place. The KEA would release developments on a day-to-day basis and hence it was important to keep track of the website. Speaking on alternative careers, Shoaib Valai, career counsellor from CIGMA, said that there were over 15,000 different careers and students had a wide variety of options to pick their career from. Judge your aptitude, understand your personality and select a course which interests you, he told students.
