The second edition of “The Huddle”, a two-day thought conclave of The Hindu that debuted in Bengaluru in 2017, was inaugurated in Bengaluru on Saturday. Describing the conclave as a platform for debate and exchange of ideas in a congenial way, “huddling” together was the need of the hour in a time of frightening polarised debate and raising intolerance, said Mukund Padmanabhan, Editor, The Hindu , in his introductory remarks.
“‘The Huddle’ is organised not to create a polarised debate, but to have an opportunity to embrace new ideas, listen to diverse views, re-examine our predispositions and review biases. We hope to do this in the spirit of The Huddle, which is the spirit of togetherness,” Mr. Padmanbhan said.
R. Ravichander, Regional Director, South, Yes Bank, one of the sponsors of the conclave, said, “‘The Huddle’ was all the more relevant today, as India story had become a global buzzword and the country was experiencing a period of socio-economic and cultural renaissance, a rapid transformation of old benchmarks and practices with new paradigms of success.” He said “the country’s sharpest minds and tallest achievers will brainstorm ideas for the future and help us create a road map for sustainable development and growth at The Huddle.”
Terming the media "a repository of collective wisdom and a tool nation building", he commended The Hindu Group for consistently contributing to nation's growth by putting out accurate information and balanced views. “ The Hindu has a long and rich intellectual legacy and has always provided a platform for constructive discussion and exchange of ideas on matters of national importance,” he said. He further said “Yes Bank saw itself as a “knowledge driven bank” and this is also why the Bank gives such importance to such thought conclaves.”
The two-day thought conclave will see former president of Maldives Mohamed Nasheed, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh N. Chandrababu Naidu, multiple former RBI governors, cricketing star Sachin Tendulkar and others engage ideas.
