Desecration of a portrait of B.R. Ambedkar in Mylandahalli in Malur taluk of Kolar district triggered tension in the area on Sunday.

The portrait on a wall in the village was smeared with cow dung after supporters of two political parties clashed on Saturday night in connection with gram panchayat elections to be held on June 2. The incident left the followers of some Dalit organisations and political parties divided.

Senior police and revenue officials, including Deputy Superintendent of Police K. Ashokkumar rushed to the spot and conducted a peace meeting involving all groups.
