‘TenderSure’ project

May 25, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:51 am IST

Sir, — The ‘TenderSure’ project in the city to widen footpaths and streamline streets has been suspended for the time being. It is clear in some cases that the footpaths are too wide while the street width has shrunk.

The plan to “fit one size” for all footpaths is not going to work. The case for wider footpath is strong no doubt, but one should keep in mind the traffic density that would create chaos,

if the street width is shrunk. Hence, proper planning is needed while deciding to undertake work keeping all aspects in mind.

Preventive steps

Sir, — The steps taken by BBMP to set up control rooms to receive complaints on tree-fall on roads and take remedial action on the roads is laudable. But the authorities should have thought of removing the hazard of tree-fall by pruning the branches that are vulnerable to cause damage to life and property during rain and gusty winds. The authorities can, even now, draw up a plan to take up preventive measures, keeping in view that the monsoon season is about to start.

Students’ woes

Sir, — Justice has to be denied for II PU students across the State. The anger of the students and their parents against the authorities is understandable. This is not the first time that the PU Board has goofed up. The board would do well to lend an ear to the woes of the student community and try and address their genuine grievances.
