Tearful farewell to IAS officer

Thousands came out on to the streets and legislative business was stalled by the Opposition as the body of IAS officer D.K. Ravi, who was found dead under mysterious circumstances at his apartment on Tuesday evening, was buried at his native Doddakoppalu village in Kunigal taluk of Tumakuru district on Wednesday. The huge crowd of mourners bore testimony to the goodwill the 2009 batch IAS officer, who was last posted as Additional Commissioner of Commercial Taxes (Enforcement), had earned by taking on the a powerful land mafia when he was Deputy commissioner of Kolar district till 2014.

Police on Tuesday said it was prima facie a case of suicide as the body was found hanging from a ceiling fan. In the Karnataka legislature, the Opposition demanded a CBI probe and a united Opposition, which has embarked on a night-long dharna, questioned the ‘suicide theory.’ However, Chief Minister Siddaramiah ordered a CID probe into the incident.
