Sharing borders with Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, Kolar district is well known for its linguistic harmony with a large number of people speaking Telugu and Tamil besides Kannada. The II Pre-University results declared on Monday has thrown up another classic example towards strengthening this tradition.

R. Eshwari, whose mother tongue is Tamil, has scored 98 out of 100 marks in Kannada in her II PU.

Eshwari is a student of Smt. Danamma Channabasavaiah (SDC) Independent Pre University College on the outskirts of Kolar town. She topped the district in Science stream by scoring 588 marks (98 per cent).

Eshwari passed SSLC with 97 per cent marks from a private high school in Bangarpet. She scored 125 out of 125 marks in Kannada in SSLC and almost repeated the feat in II PU examinations by scoring 98 marks.

Her sister Priyanka scored 91 per cent marks in this year’s SSLC examinations.

“My parents hail from Karur in Tamil Nadu and my mother tongue is Tamil. However I like and love Kannada,” says Eshwari. “I have developed a kind of affection towards the State language Kannada since childhood and probably this was the reason why I fared well in the subject,” she told The Hindu on Tuesday.

Her father Rajendran is a garment trader and mother Lakshmi is a home-maker, who migrated to Bangarpet about two decades ago.

The girl used to travel from Bangarpet to Kolar every day to attend college. She also did not join any tuition classes.

Elated over the feat of topping the district, Eshwari aspires to pursue studies in engineering.
