Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs J.C. Madhuswamy has directed the Deputy Director of Mines and Geology to take action against illegal sand extraction and transportation to Bengaluru and Mysuru from the district.

He was speaking in a meeting of MLAs and MPs at the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Thursday.

Mr. Madhuswamy alleged that illegal permission was given to those transporting sand in lorries but action was taken against those carrying a bag of sand on a cycle. He said every night close to 200 lorries were illegally transporting sand from Koratagere.

He directed the Deputy Director to permit the use of sand in the construction of Ashraya, Janata houses and government housing schemes.
