Swachh food: street vendors to get identity cards

October 03, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - MYSURU:

As part of Swachh Safe Food initiative, the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has decided to provide ID cards to food vendors and ensure garbage disposal from the proposed food hawking zones.

Being a joint initiative, the MCC has taken the responsibility of provision of RO water at subsidised costs to vendors and provide pay-and- use toilets at subsidised cost to vendors and helpers. Pavement maintenance and upgrading; streetlights, and hand washing and utensil washing facility are the other interventions planned by the MCC. T-shirt with an MCC logo will also be distributed to the vendors.  Schevaran Labs Limited, Mysuru, which has partnered with the initiative under National Urban Livelihood Mission, aims to give facelift to food vending kiosks besides giving umbrellas (for shelter to vendors and customers), water containers with side taps, aprons, wash cloths, cleaning agents (kiosks, utensils and pavement), hand sanitizers, plastic chairs for customers (matching the ethnic look).
