Sugarcane farms to have drip irrigation facility

Minister for Water Resources M.B. Patil has announced that in December this year, the government will launch an ambitious project to provide drip irrigation to nearly 4.5 lakh hectare sugarcane farms in the State.

Addressing presspersons after participating in the Rajyotsava programme here on Saturday, he said the modalities for the project have almost completed and that the project would be implemented soon.

“We want to develop these four districts as Agro Processing Corridor. To give a boost, the government, in the second quarter of next year, will organise Global Investors’ Meet here,” he said.

He said that within a fortnight, he would invite Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to launch the tank filling project of historic Bhutanal and Begum Talab of Vijayapura city. These two tanks would be used as storage tanks to supply water to Vijayapura city, he added.
